 BRIEF ON THE HONOUABLE MINISTER OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, PROFESSOR MOHAMMED K ABUBARKAR

Professor Mohammed Ka'oje Abubakar, DFIAMN, IAMN, the Honourable Minister of Science & Technology, was born on 19th of October, 1959 in Zuru, Kebbi State of Nigeria. He had his Primary Education at Dantudu Gomo Primary School, Zuru between 1967 and 1973 before proceeding to Government College Bida where he obtained his West African School Certificate in 1977. He was at the State College of Arts and Science, Sokoto between 1977 and 1979 for the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) Examination where he was honoured as the best candidate in Science. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he bagged a B.Sc 2nd Class Upper and an M. Sc Biochemistry in 1982 and 1989 respectively; he was also at the University of Essex in the United Kingdom between 1990 and 1994 and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Biochemistry.

Professor Abubakar, a distinguished scholar of International repute, joined the service of Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto as Graduate Assistant in 1983 and became a full Professor in 2000. He was Acting Head of Department of Biochemistry of the University at three different periods among numerous other Academic and Administrative responsibilities. He attended several National and International Seminars, Conferences and Workshops, and had lots of Scientific Publications to his credits.

He was the Director General and later Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Kebbi State between 1996 and 1998; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Kebbi State from 2000 to 2003 and later served as Commissioner in the same Ministry between 2003 and 2006. In the same year, he was moved to the State Ministry of Health as Honourable Commissioner and served concurrently as the Chairman of the Implementation Committee of Kebbi State University of Science & Technology, Aliero up to 2007. As a merited award for hard work and diligence, he was appointed Vice Chancellor, Kebbi State University of Science & Technology, Aliero, a position he held until April 2010 when he was appointed an Honourable Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Professor M. K Abubakar is a Fellow, Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Patron Member, New York Academy of Sciences; Elected Member, European Academy of Sciences; Member, Nigerian Society of Experimental Biology; Member, American Chemical Society, among others.

Professor Mohammed Ka'oje Abubarkar, who holds the Traditional Title of Wazirin Birnin Tudu Magatakaradan Zuru is married and blessed with children.
